Most gear heads have a difficult time answering the question “what is your dream car?” For me, that’s never been an issue, at least, not since 2004 when the fine folks at Ferrari bestowed upon us the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.
The way I understand it, Ferrari made the 360 Challenge (sans-Stradale) first. A race car based on the road car. Then came the road going race car in the form of the Challenge Stradale. All of that could be bogus, but it makes for a good story eh?
Shortly after its debut, prices plummeted, as Ferrari’s are wont to do, to about the same as a 3 bedroom ranch in the suburbs. Today, however, these are going for closer to a quarter million. Which, depending on where you live, might get you a soggy cracker box in a decent back alley, or it might get you a veritable McMansion
The noise this car makes is tantalizing. It doesn’t apologize for having no carpet or door cards. Ther s a fire extinguisher in the floor. If Enzo himself had made a mid engined Ferrari, this would have been it.
Now certainly there have been worthy successors I believe a certain PT Cruiser crushing jabroni recently posted a video of himself in the spiritual successor. But the 360 will always be my favorite.
Assuming you’ve read my babbling to this point, we’ve reached the zenith of this post.
What is your ONE dream car? No budget, no other constraints other than one car. It’s called a dream car for a reason eh?

Year and generation doesn’t matter (though a roof would be nice), they’re all great.
Its loud, its brash, its fast and it makes you do everything. Plus its made in Detroit.

Lexus LF-A
No doubt.

Mostly because it doesn’t matter what year or generation, they all look the exact same. :P

It is hard to pick just one, but I gotta go with the RUF CTR “Yellowbird”

Im more interested in that particular white vehicle behind it. Almost looks like an Iron Pig but I'm not quite sure...

True, but since they all look the same and are the same size, there is no model bloat!

We must be brothers as this is my sentiment exactly. I have been a Ferrari lover since I saw my first Testarossa. Yet, through all of the years and models, the Challenge Stradale is my all time favorite Ferrari! I would even take one over an F40, F50, Enzo, F12, La Ferrari, etc....
Yes, it was a modified 360 that was in the Challenge races, but it was so much more back then. It was Ferrari starting to say that we want you to have our track car on the road. And it was amazing. Shortly after the FXX came around and other boutique race cars you could street.
The CS will be in my garage someday.
My all time favorite Top Gear video for reference. The GT3 RS was amazing as well but the Ferrari is obviously the pull for the segment.

And yet the ‘96 still looks the best. 2nd gens were hideous and the 3rd gens look alright.
1st gen GTS all the way!

I sat in one a few years ago and was able to hear it rev. And although I am not the biggest fan of the LFA, I cannot deny that it is one of the most amazing sounding cars ever made. Nothing sounds like it but maybe an F1 car.

This will always be my absolute dream car!

Until the day comes in which I drive a Mclaren F1, I can’t imagine driving a car better than the NSX. And if price is irrelevant, I’ll go with the ‘92 Type-R
I do love the 360CS though; it may be my favorite modern Ferrari.

The one dream car i have always wanted is a 1962 Chevy Bel Air “bubble top”. 409ci/409hp dual four w motor with the matching 4 speed. A Z11 (aluminum nose) bel air would be sweet but just a 409/409 car would make me happy. I thank the Beach Boys song 409 for my obsession with this car.

NSX with Honda/McLaren F1 engine swap.
Or Ferrari 360 with Ferrari F1 engine swap.
Just something with an F1 engine swap.
Or Nissan Skyline R34 GTR NISMO Z-TUNE. No F1 engine swap. Just stock.
I didn’t do this right did I?

I’m the other way around. 3rd(technically 5th) gen all the way! 1st gens are less of a complete package. Headlights, interior, etc. needs some work.

I often waver between a DB4 and something from the Ferrari 250 family...today I am going with...
Ferrari 250 Europa

Up to a few years ago, it’d easily have been the Volkswagen 1-Liter Auto from 2002:
Two-seater, mid-engine, RWD, and pushing the very limits of technology... with a one-cylinder 300 cc naturally aspirated diesel making 8.5 hp, and a top speed of about 75 mph. But, it weighed 639 lbs, so it had that going for it. Later versions of the concept went to a 2-cylinder TDI, some hybridization, and then later, side-by-side seating and plug-in-hybrid operation, but the original concept is the one that really speaks to me the most.
Now? I’m honestly not sure. I still like the concept, although I’d insist on more power for something freeway-capable, and more electrification - so, more in line with the later versions. Also, frankly, modern diesel technology sucks, IMO, and the necessary aftertreatment wouldn’t package well. And, I really don’t like stepped automatics, and prefer power split hybrid architectures.

I’ve suffered from the ADD of ultimate dream car indecision before but the one car that has held my hear the longest is the Lancia 037 Stradale.
